Polish is a West Slavic language in Central Europe and the official language of Poland. Its written standard is the Polish alphabet which corresponds to the Latin alphabet with several additions. Polish-speakers use the language in a uniform manner throughout most of Poland. It is also the third most widely spoken Slavic language, after Russian and Ukrainian.
The native name for Polish is polski (Polish), język polski (the Polish language), or more formally, polszczyzna (Polish).

Pronunciation:
- ą = [ o ] before l or ł
- ę = [ e ] before l or ł or at the end of a word
- The i in ci, dzi, ni, si and zi is not pronunced when they are followed by another vowel, e.g. dzień (day)
- ó is called "u kreskowane"
- The letters q (ku), v (fau) and x (iks) are also used, but only for foreign names or words.
- The two consonants rz very occasionally reflect the sounds "r z", not [ʐ], as in words zamarzać (to freeze), marznąć (to feel cold) or in the name Tarzan.
